NeuroESP – Assistance System for Warning of Epileptic Seizures
TU Dresden & SIGMA Medizin-Technik GmbH
Since October 2017, SIGMA Medizin-Technik has been collaborating with the Technical University of Dresden in the research project “NeuroESP – Assistance System for Warning of Epileptic Seizures“. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Around 600,000 to 800,000 patients in Germany suffer from epilepsy, with an additional 40,000 each year. Since the seizures of many patients cannot be sufficiently controlled by medication, the quality of life of many patients is severely impaired. In order to improve these, it is of great interest to develop new diagnostic methods that not only diagnose epileptic seizures, but can also predict them. The long-term goal of the research project is to develop an implant that will continuously record and analyze brain waves on site. SIGMA Medizin-Technik GmbH supports the project with the development of a mobile prototype for telemedical monitoring of epilepsy patients. The completion of this prototype is planned for this year, first tests with patients are to take place soon afterwards.
